Laser Vein Therapy
Although spider veins are common and usually harmless, they can also be irritating and embarrassing and can negatively impact your self-confidence. As with any medical treatment, the process begins with a consultation to review your medical history to determine if there are any potential risks. There are several treatment options for addressing varicose veins and we’ll help you select the safest and most appropriate one to achieve your goals.
What is Laser Treatment for Varicose Veins?
Simple laser vein treatment is used to treat varicose veins and spider veins just beneath the skin‘s surface.
A laser is a highly focused beam of light used to treat varicose veins. Laser heat damages a vein, which makes scar tissue form. This scar tissue closes the vein. A closed vein loses its source of blood and the vein will disappear. Most commonly, this is performed on unsightly leg veins that patients want to be removed for cosmetic reasons.
Simple laser vein treatment is performed on your skin‘s surface. It can treat spider veins and tiny varicose veins, for larger veins other procedures may be recommended. If you have poor blood circulation feeding these tiny veins, the larger “feeder” vein must first be treated with sclerotherapy.
What to Expect During the Procedure
During laser vein treatment, you will be provided with a pair of goggles to protect your eyes from the intense laser light, we will apply a cooling gel to the area to be treated. Then we will proceed with the procedure, the laser will be placed against the skin on the spider vein, you may feel a slight discomfort.
Patients have stated the laser treatment feels like a rubber band snapping, ice may be used. The procedure only takes 15-30 minutes depending on the area being treated. The laser energy will move through the skin, damaging vein walls. You don’t have to worry about any incisions, unlike other invasive procedures for this condition.
In exceptionally rare instances, as with any medical procedure, there is a risk of complications that include skin burns, changes in skin color, and nerve damage.
Aftercare
The most convenient part of laser vein treatment is that it requires no downtime. After the procedure, you may resume your normal activities. The area surrounding the target vein may be a little sore and the use of compression garments can help. Usually, additional treatments are necessary. They are scheduled every 6 to 12 weeks, as prescribed by your doctor.
Clients often ask if laser treatment for varicose veins is safe. Laser vein and vascular lesions treatment is less painful than vein ligation and stripping, and it has a shorter recovery time. You may need to wear compression stockings for a bit to help heal the varicose vein, but you should see results in about two to three weeks.
Sclerotherapy and laser vein treatments are the modern procedures of choice to eradicate visible spider veins and their symptoms, Aesthetics MedSpa offers both treatment options.
