Name

Facials are essential in our skincare routine due to their extensive benefits and long-lasting results. The platelet-rich plasma (PRP) facial, however, is more than a simple facial. The treatment provides results worthy of a surgical facelift with none of the side effects. Yes, there is blood involved, but there is nothing to be afraid of. The platelet-rich therapy is not a form of surgery, and the risks are significantly lower.

A woman with tied-back hair and natural makeup looks to the side against a light background, embodying the serene elegance often associated with Reno's finest aesthetics med spas.

What Is a Plasma Facial Treatment

The platelet-rich plasma procedure, also known as a vampire facial or vampire facelift, is an advanced cosmetic treatment that uses the body’s natural healing process to improve collagen production and promote facial rejuvenation.

The procedure combines microneedling and PRP to encourage cell growth and accelerate the collagen production process to treat a variety of age-related skin concerns.

This minimally invasive treatment uses growth factors obtained from the patient’s body to trigger the body’s natural healing mechanisms and create healthy skin cells for better-looking skin and a youthful appearance.

The Benefits of PRP Injections for Your Face

Our blood is made of plasma, red and white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets play an essential role in the healing process of our body. Our expert team of professionals uses the platelets in your own blood to boost the production of collagen and improve the appearance of the skin. The procedure is often used to:

  • reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles
  • improve the aspect of acne scars and surgical scars
  • enhance skin tone
  • combat uneven skin texture
  • improve moisture retention
  • reduce the appearance of large pores
  • improve the aspect of dark spots
  • reduce the effects of sun damage

Who Is an Ideal Candidate for PRP Facial Injections

PRP treatment for the face is best suited for individuals who:

Experience Signs of Aging

If you’re looking to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and improve skin texture, PRP can stimulate collagen production for a more youthful appearance.

Have Acne or Surgical Scars

The treatment can help reduce the appearance of scars by promoting cell regeneration and improving overall skin tone.

Struggle with Hyperpigmentation or Uneven Skin Tone

PRP can enhance skin brightness and even out discoloration, making it a good option for those with mild to moderate pigmentation issues.

Prefer Non-Surgical Options

If you want rejuvenating results without the risks and downtime of surgery, a PRP facial is an excellent alternative.

Individuals with conditions such as clotting disorders, a history of severe sun damage, or those on certain blood-thinning medications may not be suited for the plasma facial treatment. If this is the case, we can discuss other options during your consultation.

PRP Facial Injection Treatment Areas

PRP can be used in several areas of the face to improve skin quality, support collagen, and enhance overall skin rejuvenation. Because platelet-rich plasma is injected into the skin using your body’s own healing factors, this approach works well for areas that need smoother texture, better elasticity, and a more refreshed appearance.

Lips

PRP is injected into the lips to support collagen and improve overall skin texture without adding dermal filler volume. This treatment can help enhance hydration, smooth fine lines, and improve elasticity in the delicate lip area.

Chin

PRP injections in the chin area can help improve skin structure and smooth texture. Platelet-rich plasma injection stimulates collagen and supports firmer-looking skin.

Cheeks

Inject PRP into the cheeks to help rejuvenate the skin and support collagen production. PRP therapy may improve skin quality, restore a healthy glow, and create revitalized skin.

Nasolabial Folds

PRP can help soften the look of smile lines and support improvement in your skin around the nose and mouth. PRP is injected into the skin to improve elasticity and reduce wrinkles over time.

Jawline

Using PRP along the jawline can help strengthen skin tissue and improve overall skin quality. This approach supports firmer-looking skin and can complement dermal filler treatments.

Under Eyes

PRP is commonly injected into the skin under the eyes to improve skin texture, reduce wrinkles, and brighten the area.

Temples

PRP injections in the temples help rejuvenate the skin and support collagen where volume and elasticity may decrease over time.

What to Expect During the PRP Treatment for the Face

The procedure lasts between 30 minutes and one hour. One of our specialists will draw a small vial of blood from you to extract the platelet-rich plasma. The vial will be placed in a centrifuge to separate the PRP from the red cells.

We will apply a numbing cream about 20 minutes before treatment. This anti-aging skin treatment is non-surgical and doesn’t involve the use of a scalpel.

We will simply apply the plasma over your face and proceed with microneedling to create the micro-channels necessary to allow full absorption of the plasma into the skin. The areas targeted are usually the forehead and cheeks, but also other parts of your face.

Microneedling achieves collagen stimulation, while the infusion of PRP improves the collagen production rate and promotes skin tightening and improved skin texture.

Aftercare for Your Platelet Plasma Facial

The procedure is simple and doesn’t involve downtime. The patient may experience superficial pain and minor bruising due to the use of the microneedling device, but the plasma accelerates the healing process of the skin.

Post-treatment care tips:

  • Avoid direct sun exposure for a few days
  • Wear sunscreen daily to protect the skin
  • Skip active ingredients like retinol, vitamin C, and exfoliating acids for about a week
  • Avoid fragranced or heavily processed skincare products during early healing
  • Focus on gentle, hydrating products while your skin recovers

The results are not instantaneous, but you will be able to notice a tighter, brighter skin in the next few days after the procedure. This anti-aging treatment delivers effects that can last several months with proper skin care and products.

However, for the best results, patients should have about one to three treatments spaced one to two months apart. These indications may vary, especially if struggling with hyperpigmentation, scarring, or other types of skin damage.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

While results vary by individual, many patients enjoy improved skin texture and reduced signs of aging for several months up to 1–2 years. Consistent skin care and periodic touch-up treatments can help maintain these benefits.

Most patients report only minimal discomfort during the treatment, especially since a numbing cream is applied to the injection sites beforehand. Any mild pain is typically short-lived.

Results are typically seen two to three weeks after the first treatment. A series of one to three treatments spaced about one to two months apart is recommended, although this can vary by individual.

PRP facial treatments are generally safe when performed by experienced professionals. However, they may not be suitable for individuals with certain blood disorders or severe skin damage.

They do different things. PRP focuses on skin rejuvenation by improving texture, elasticity, and overall skin quality using your body’s own healing factors. Botox relaxes muscles to smooth expression lines. Many clients use both as part of a balanced treatment plan.

PRP may help improve overall skin quality and support healing, but it’s not a primary treatment for rosacea. If you have active redness or flare-ups, your provider will determine whether PRP is appropriate or recommend treatments better suited for sensitive skin.
